Introduction to Meditation

This is an introduction to meditation by Ben Decker. This video will give you an overview about what meditation is about, how it’s done, and some common misconceptions many people have about meditation. It introduces you to the two specific meditations below. Either meditation can be done anytime, anywhere. These meditations are great to have in your toolbox to help with your success in adjusting your habits toward a healthier lifestyle.

Mindfulness Meditation

This meditation is to help you become aware of everything that’s going on around you. This is particularly helpful when you are changing habits and becoming aware of the things in your environment that make it difficult to keep your new habits and any people who may not be supporting you. We recommend doing this meditation in the morning or earlier in the day, but it can be done at any time.

Relaxation Response Meditation

This meditation is to help you move from the stress response to the relaxation response. The human body’s response to relaxation is equilibrium. When your body is in this state of equilibrium, you can think more clearly, make decisions more consciously, and heal more rapidly. We recommend doing this meditation in the evening or just before bed, but it can be done at any time.
